Name:Nell Nan
E-mail:phoebe_spark@hotmail.com
Bio:Character Name(s): Nell Nan
Nicknames/Aliases: Nellie
Gender: female
Race: human with supernatural powers, illusion
Actual Character Age: 20
DOB: March 21, 1986
Physical Description: (Blake)Blake is a short and almost too thin with a boyish frame. Her face is very angular and as she keeps her hair short the cuts will accentuate that fact. Her hair is dark brown but prone to fits of dying black along with other colors. Though recently she’s come to realize she does not have to use dye. She looks very much like a boy and depending on her hair length at the time and what she’s wearing it’s very easy to make the mistake that she is one. She has several tattoos most of which she got on whims and she enjoys that Nell’s tattoos are different than hers. However the two are nearly identical outside of the tattoos.

Distinguishing marks: Both twins have tattoos all over their arms. They are in different places but Blake’s most noticeable is a design on her elbow. Nell has one on her inner wrist.
PB: Tegan and Sara Quin
Birth Location: New York, New York
Personality: Blake is a loud mouthed girl with no sense of holding back. She’s tough and makes sure everyone knows it. If she does not like you then you are going to know that she doesn’t and you probably should get out of her way. Punches are never pulled and she makes a habit of standing her ground if someone decides to push onto her territory. She makes sure that she has a reputation so people have less of an urge to mess with her.

But while she’s a rough and tumble kind of girl she’s a brash and boisterous friend. She loves a good time and if you get on her good side when you first meet her it is unlikely that you will find a way onto her bad side unless something unforgivable is done. Loyal to a fault she will take a bullet for a friend if a bullet needs to be taken. Lying falls into this. Blake will never be accused of being a liar and will react violently if told this.

Blake has little to no control over her emotions. Her temper has always been volatile and her emotions unstable. Substance abuse stemming from her early teen years to now did not help the matter and she is constantly on edge most of the time. Mood swings are common and while she tries to keep control it is easily one of the most difficult things about her. become

Without Nell Blake would not have survived. The other girl can lie as easy as she can breathe and con her way out of just about anything. She is a stable force that Blake could never find. However while Blake is physically dependant on Nell, Nell is much more mentally dependant on Blake. She has no idea how so would get along without her sister and has gone as far as to ruin things without her sister knowing it. Blake on the other hand is easily parted from her sister and while she’s unstable she can rely on other people in a way her sister cannot. Since Destiny’s death and her stint in rehab however she has been increasingly clingy to her sister, which Nell does not seem to mind.

Personal Background:
Blake and Nell were born to a sixteen year old Tracey Meredith Nan on March 21. They were born a month early in the bathtub as her mother had yet to tell her own mother that she just happened to be pregnant. All she remembered about the boy who could have possibly been the father was blonde hair, which was probably because she had been rather drunk. The babies had been small and the high school sophomore had been quite good at hiding it over the progressing months. Her grandmother walked in on the scene and called the hospital where Blake was put on special watch having almost died within her first 24 hours of life while Nell seemed to be perfectly healthy. Miraculously Blake survived and quickly caught up to her sister. Though Blake was at first on the one in danger it was quickly found that Nell had a heart defect that needed to be operated on immediately. She barely survived the surgery but both twins recovered surprisingly well by the medical staffs opinion. The medical bills, however, forced a heavy strain on the Nan family.

To cope with this Tracey, a cheerleader, dropped out of school and got a housekeeping job to help pay for the bills. Their childhood was a meager one at best. Christmas was always a depressing time of year especially once she started going to school as there was never enough money for presents let alone decorations. Their family tried and while their mother was never really around she loved them and so did their Grandnan Nan. It was a loving home but no one was ever really around because of the lack of money.

The twins from the start seemed to be two sides of the same coin. Blake was loud and messy where Nell was quiet and neat. The two were inseparable and would rarely play with other children which caused Grandnan Nan to worry. However the twins seemed perfectly content with just having each other while they toddled around. Other children did not find their way into the twin’s world.

That changed when the two started school. Naturally friendlier than her sister, Blake quickly made friends and left her sister behind. Nell did not take well to this and soon the other children began to complain about Blake. Often times it was odd things and normally Nell would be around when they happened. Not only that but more than one child complained that when Blake was near them they saw monsters. The teachers had no idea what to do about this and simply assumed that Blake was intimidating the other students. Blake openly denied all of these and the only person who would listen with a sympathetic ear was Nell. Soon her sister was labeled a troublemaker and by the time they headed to middle school Blake acted like one.

Tracey tried to be a mother for the two of them but she had never been the motherly type to begin with. She favored Nell over Blake so blatantly that Grandnan Nan often chastised her for it, only to be ignored. This served to polarize Blake against her mother and the two would get into screaming matches that would cause fellow people in the apartment complex to call the cops on them more than once. Nell would often just stand in the background and comfort Blake afterward. Nell never wanted more of her mother’s attention, especially when it seemed to mean so much to Blake.

What Nell did not know is that often times when she was not around, say out grocery shopping with her grandmother, Tracey’s temper would get the worst of her and Blake would always get the brunt of it. While Tracey never beat Blake viciously she would hit her when she just could not take the girl’s sass and Nell would always hear how Blake had fallen. Nell did not find out till much later when Blake was high that it was their mother that caused those marks that would occasionally show up.

It often got worse and Blake took to staying out late. Nell would often go with her but never took up the habits that her sister started to, such as smoking. Often if they came to any sort of party environment Nell would be off in the corner nursing a diet coke and making sure Blake did not do anything too foolish.

A month after their fifteenth birthday Nell woke up to find that Blake had run away. Nell had a fit, tearing the house apart looking for her sister. Blake did not go to school and when she had not returned for several days Nell followed after her. The two found each other in an abandoned building some weeks later that Blake had been squatting in. It was filthy and drafty but there were other people around. Of course, Nell had her suspicions about these people.

In the few short weeks that Nell had left her sister the ever friendly Blake had managed to align herself with a group of musicians that ‘lived’ there. Nell was accepted only because she was Blake’s sister though most of the time the others were too drunk or high to tell them apart. Except for the fact that Blake had apparently accepted this as her way of life, leaving Nell as the one who became the mother of the group purely out of concern for her sister’s wellbeing. She resented the roll but there was not anything she could do because Blake refused to listen to her.

The group was a band called The Lost Horizon. Blake had always had a good voice and took over the microphone as their lead singer had left. The guitar was played by a tall boy named Bryan and the bass was played by his cousin Christopher. But it was the drummer that Nell despised more than anyone. She was a pretty blonde heroin addict named Destiny. A heroin addict that Blake was already smitten with by the time Nell had found her.

It was through the band that Blake and Nell got their nicknames, Blaine and Nellie. Blaine was the raspy singer that would dominate the stage and Nellie was the girl who made sure none of them died from an overdose. No matter how she tried there was no way that Nell could drag Blake away from the life of music and drugs. She refused to even drink, constantly worried that if she were less than aware Blake would accidentally OD. Nell tried to stop her from taking them in the first place but Blake now listened to Destiny instead and it made Nell sick.

Blake on the other hand thrived on this lifestyle. The excitement and rush of it all made her feel like she was alive and someone very different than the girl whose mother used to yell at her for causing trouble. Now she was trouble and there was nothing their mother could do about it. Not only that but she was in love. She in head over her heels love with Destiny and was oblivious to how much her sister despised her.

Things went well enough. The band would sometimes get gigs and people liked Blake’s voice. So they got some money that way. When that was not enough the twins got pretty good at stealing. The fact that most of the money was going towards drugs and not food did not pass by Nell and she always made sure that she had a stash of money to buy food with for her and Blake when there was not enough in the ‘food pot’. She still keeps a stash, paranoid that they will run out and starve.

About a year after they started this life Nell finally met someone at a gig that seemed to distain her sister’s lifestyle as much as her. His name was Anthony and while Nell still spent most of her time watching after her sister and the rest of the band, she began to sneak away to see him. Instead of the drug fueled romance of Destiny and Blake, Nell and Anthony spent time in libraries and sneaking into museums. Nell was pretty sure she was in love. That was until that Christmas when Anthony was run over by a car. He died on the way to the hospital and Nell closed even more within herself, becoming more bitter and snide.

They were seventeen, almost eighteen when the night Nell had unconsciously been hoping for happened. Nell woke up to Blake screaming. She ran to her sister’s side to find her shaking Destiny’s limp form. The girl had finally injected herself with too much and keeled off. While she had no sympathy for Destiny her heart broke for her sister and she dragged her out only to get hit by her sister.

Blake had always been the stronger one and Nell was knocked off of her feet. Blake stood in shock at what she had done and Nell got up shakily and called 911 to get someone to take the body. Blake fell to the floor and just stared out into space. Knowing they had to get out of there, Nell grabbed hold of her twin and dragged her out.

With her sister not responding to anything Nell had to think fast. She remembered an old woman passing her a card once at a soup kitchen, telling her that she should really get Blake some help. It was still tucked in her empty wallet and Nell dragged her sister physically to the rehab center that’s address was given. She begged them to take Blake and promised that she would get the money to pay for it and she did.

Before Blake knew it she had been shoved into a rehab clinic. She knew there was no way that they could pay for it and Nell would never tell her or anyone else how she managed to get the money to get her sister clean. The girl had a head for business and for marking targets that she could get easy money from. While she never had to sell her soul to a pimp, Nell was pretty sure during those months she had already sold her soul. Blake was there for six months and while she was there something odd happened.

One of the social workers seemed particularly interested in her and her sister. He seemed to notice that things seemed to change around the twins. There was something strange about how the world could bend. On the day of Blake’s release he slipped a card to Nell and the two of them met with him later that week, to find out just exactly what they were.

It was just a theory, but somehow they had stumbled upon someone else like them. He was a mage and had more than a hunch that these two girls had more going for them than just charisma. They were not human. Well, at least not like normal humans. At least that was what he told them when they met at a small café. Things seemed to fall into place as he explained them, Blake eagerly listening in. Nell was more suspicious but eventually she was swayed to this side of thinking. The man was a scout and was telling them of a school they could go to that would help them sort out exactly what they were. The two of them were 19, almost 20 now. They had no job skills, they had no home, and with their record it was more likely they would be sent to jail than anything else. The worst that could happen is they would be sent away. And if they went it was a chance to get back up on their feet. It seemed like a good enough idea to the both of them.

The school turned out to be nothing like either twin had imagined. Of course Blake settled in quick enough, but neither of them were learning what they were told that they would learn. Nell managed to make what she assumed was a friendship with a fellow New Yorker named James. But all the school was offering them was really more trouble. The twins were starting to get sick with extra energy.

When the letter came from the old band about them having gotten clean, Nell and Blake skipped out on school yet again and headed back to New York. They kept in infrequent touch with their friends that they had met. But New York was just as tough as it had been when they left it and breaking back into the circuit was not all it was cracked up to be.

Instead of falling back into old tricks, Nell decided to pull some new ones. New York was a big city and she had been practicing well enough on her own to start her own little conning business. Blake started to learn from Nell and they were getting pretty good at it, distracting people with illusions and picking pockets. Made it much easier to slip into the ritzier places too, until they picked the pocket of some Angel bastard

He was not a real angel, least not full anyway. But he gave them a choice. Head back to school again and try to better themselves or end up in a world of hurt.

Family: Tracy Nan (mother), Father unknown, Susan Nan (grandmother)
Weakness:Paranoia, Blake, physically weak, and an intense dislike for the dark. Both sisters are more powerful physically than a typical Fae, but Nell is the weaker of the two. Neither is really as strong as a normal in shape human.
Magical Abilities: Illusion. Nell has been practicing at this on her own and while her technique is certainly self taught, she'd been getting better at manipulating the perceived environment.
Any Training: Is very good at getting a pocket knife into painful places. She has also gotten incredibly good at cheating at cards, helped by her own ability.
Special Skills: Plays guitar, piano and drums.
